Transitioning from Year 6 to Year 7

We work closely with staff from our local secondary schools to ensure that all of our pupils are well supported and feel confident when the time comes for them to move onto their new school. Preparations begin in Year 5, when our pupils are involved in Taster Sessions. Our pupils are also invited to attend Open Evenings, which enable our families to make informed choices, prior to them filling in their Secondary School Application in the Autumn Term of Y6. We have strong links with our local schools and work closely with their staff in providing extra-curricular activities. This work allows our pupils to become familiar with school buildings, new teachers and expectations, and in turn builds their confidence and reduces any anxiety they may have. Carefully planned transition activities and strong communication between our Y6 staff and Y7 teachers ensure that our pupils are well supported and feel happy and confident when moving on to their new schools.

The following links and resources will offer information and support to help you and your child when transitioning from primary to secondary school.
