About our Pupil Council!
Our Pupil Council was initiated to give pupils a chance to take more responsibility for their school life, to express their opinions in a mature and sensible way and to contribute meaningfully to the life of our school. .
Our Pupil Council meets weekly, usually on Tuesday in assembly time and has a representative from each class.
We have a management team from Year 6 who applied in a mature way for their posts. They lead the meetings and undertake additional tasks, sometimes voluntarily at home.
Children nominate themselves to serve on Pupil Council and all children in the class then vote for the pupil they think will be the best for the job!
Mostly, issues / ideas are discussed each week, firstly in classes then at the meeting. Information is on our school newsletters and on our school Twitter feed for parents and children to keep them informed about the work of the Pupil Council. Pupil Council also lead assemblies as a way of conveying messages to the whole school (some of their power point presentations can be seen on the school website).
Mrs Perry is the member of staff who oversees Pupil Council, but all ideas and initiatives come from the children themselves. It is always lovely to see the way in which older pupils support and work with younger pupils.
Pupil Council work in the past has included discussing and developing issues such as:
Litter
Playground games and activities
Good behaviour
Bullying (a leaflet for parents and children was written and distributed)
Toilet refurbishment
Traffic problems
Curriculum preferences
Fundraising- both for school and for charities
Rubbish
Keeping communal areas tidy
Our children who serve on Pupil Council continue to make a significant contribution to school life and develop skills of communication, diplomacy, democracy and collaboration.

Our Meetings
In our meetings we have been talking about a fun day WITH SPONSORED EVENTS and Fundraising IDEAS. In every meeting we all get to express our ideas about the topic. Then we get a new sheet for our class to talk about.
In Class
In class we talk about whatever is the topic. We have a sheet which tells us what to talk about with our class e.g. Playground improvements. Then we bring the sheets with us to the next pupil council meeting.
Messages from your Pupil Council:
If you want to be the next Pupil council representative next time remember to put your name in the ballot box.
