Ocean Trawler Challenge – British Ironwork Centre & Shropshire Sculpture Park https://www.britishironworkcentre.co.uk
We are excited to be taking part in the Ocean Trawler Challenge set by the British Ironworks. The Ironworks is loaning out its wonderful, colourful clown fish, dolphins and bottle top giraffes to schools and educational providers to help reduce waste entering our environment, and eventually our oceans. With fish and ocean mammals living in increasingly deteriorating habitats, it is our duty to step in and prioritise the reduction of plastics entering our natural world.
Our collected packets will be donated to organisations who can put them to good use (for instance, turning them into survival blankets for the homeless).
At Helmshore Primary School we run an active ECO Council, we litter pick every week in our local area. We have an eco-code in our school, and we encourage families to reduce, reuse and recycle. We have recycle bins in each classroom and on the playground. We encourage children to save water, save electricity and walk to school. We give out rewards for walking to school. We have delivered assemblies to raises awareness of being more eco-friendly. We are taking part in a fundraising event in our local Tesco to raise money for new flower beds so that we can grow our own fruit and vegetables. The local council has been into school to raise awareness of recycling. We also have an assembly from United Utilities to help us save water.
We are very excited to take on the challenge of filling the net to help save our seas and the wildlife.
