Medical Information
During the first year in school children will receive a free heights and weights check by the school nurse. This is held in school with notification sent to parents in advance.
Accidents and Illness
In the event of an accident or if a child should be unwell at school then action will be taken. It may be that a little first aid and sympathy is enough, in which case this will be dealt with by the staff.
If any further action is necessary a parent will be contacted either at home or at work. It is for this reason that emergency contact numbers must be accurate and up to date.
If your child has been involved in an accident where there has been a blow to the head, they will bring home a “bumped head” letter, indicating when the incident occurred and signs to look out for.
Emergency contact forms are sent to parents to complete annually in September. When circumstances change, parents are asked to contact school.
Administration of Medicine
We regret that we are unable to administer medicines to your child in school on thegrounds of Health and Safety. If your child requires medication please keep them at home or make arrangements to call into school to administer any medicines yourself.
Some doctors will prescribe medicine that can be administered at convenient timesoutside school hours if asked. There are exceptions to this ruling, for example, where a child has a long-term illness or asthma. No child will be excluded on medical grounds and individual cases will be given due consideration and appropriate measures set in place to accommodate each child. If children are unwell then please keep them at home. Poorly children cannot perform well and risk spreading infections and illness to others.

Head Lice Alert
From time to time we experience cases of head lice in school and would ask parents to check their child’s hair on a regular bases and inform school should they detect the presence of head lice. The NHS leaflet for ‘The prevention and treatment of Head Lice’ can be found on the school website or a copy can be collected from outside the office.
You can also visit http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Head-lice/Pages/Introduction.aspx for further information.
Healthy Eating
We are keen to encourage the children to bring healthy snacks whenever and wherever possible. We teach about healthy eating and healthy lifestyle as part of the curriculum and would be grateful if you could support us in this venture.
We encourage all children to bring a bottle of water or juice that they can drink during the day and refill is required from the water dispensers located in the corridor areas.
We are also having a problem with the amount of litter on the school premises, especially sweets wrappers, crisp packets etc. A reduction in unhealthy snacks would help with this problem too.
