Curriculum – General including Subject Policies
The curriculum in its fullest sense comprises all learning and other experiences provided by the school. It includes the formal programme of lesson, extra-curricular and out of school activities that are planned and supported by the school and the climate of relationships, attitudes, styles of behaviours and the general quality of life established in the school community as a whole.
The school aims to offer a broad, balanced and coherent curriculum encompassing both the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and a range of activities that we feel important to the development of all children regardless of age, background or gender. Through a balanced curriculum, the school aims to promote the growth of a mature, responsible, self-disciplined individual with consideration, tolerance and respect for others. Teachers seek out and develop a range of abilities, academic, practical, social, personal and physical within each child by providing balanced learning opportunities in skills, concepts, knowledge and experiences.
The main purpose of the school is to give every child the opportunity to develop new skills and to extend the abilities they possess. All children work on the National Curriculum and competence in reading, writing and number is considered a high priority. Approximately half of the time your child spends in school will be devoted to the three core subjects, English, Mathematics and Science. The rest of the time, pupils will be taught history, geography, music, art, physical education, technology and religious education. In addition, children are also encouraged to progress through cross curricular study areas, such as the social, personal, spiritual and cultural aspects of development, whilst fostering a sense of morality and well being.
The content of taught subjects is too diverse to be record here, however, teachers are happy to explain the subject teaching programmes to parents and School Policies and Schemes of work are available on the website and from the school office.
